Welke Customs Brokers USA to Sponsor Session on "Doing Business with Cuba"
Welke Customs Brokers USA will sponsor an educational forum, "Doing Business with Cuba: The Landscape Today and Expectations," on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon, at the Genesee County Economic Development Center Innovation Zone, 99 Medtech Drive, Batavia, NY 14020 (across the street from GCC). The event, co-sponsored by Greater Rochester Enterprise, Genesee County Economic Development Center and World Trade Center Buffalo Niagara, is free and open to companies with interest in exporting to Cuba.
"With all of the talk on U.S.-Cuba relations in the media, many companies are excited about the Cuban market and potential trade opportunities," said Damon Piatek, Welke president and CEO. "But we're not there yet, and it's important that companies wishing to do business with Cuba educate themselves on not only the market, but the regulatory environment and the challenges of doing business with a country that, as of today, is still sanctioned for most trade. We're arranged a fantastic panel of experts to shed light on a confusing and often misrepresented topic, and are looking forward to a great discussion."
Expert panelists for the discussion include Piatek, a Licensed U.S. Customs Broker and Customs Compliance Specialist, with over 18 years of experience in the import/export, customs, transportation, and logistics sectors, as well as:
John Kaviluch, U.S. Trade and Economic Council - John is president of the U.S.-Cuba Trade and Economic Council, Inc. (http://www.cubatrade.org), a private, membership-based, not-for-profit, nonpartisan organization established in 1994 and headquartered in New York City, New York. Mr. Kavulich also serves as Editor of the organization's primary publication, Economic Eye on Cuba©.
Alexandra López-Casero, Partner with Nixon Peabody LLP - Alexandra is a partner at Nixon Peabody's Washington, D.C. office. She concentrates her practice on export controls, economic sanctions, and national security reviews before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).
Kevin Ellis, CEO of Cayuga Milk Products - Recruited by the dairy farmer members of Cayuga Marketing, Kevin led the development of Cayuga Milk Products, which opened its doors in September, 2014. Kevin was among the delegation who traveled with Governor Andrew Cuomo to Cuba in April, 2015
The panel will highlight the realities of the on-going U.S.-Cuba trade talks, discuss challenges and opportunities for importers and exporters, and provide an overview of what companies wishing to trade with Cuba can be doing now to prepare.
Registration for "Doing Business with Cuba" opens at 9:30 a.m. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to register at www.welke.com/cuba, as space is limited.
