URGENT ALERT - Human and Animal Food Importations
Effective May 30, 2017, importers of human and animal foods, must be fully compliant with the requirements of the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP). The program requires the importer ensure that the food meets the safety standards of the Food Safety Modernization Act.
On May 30, 2017, Customs and Border Protection will be collecting additional entry information relating to the FVSP importer, as defined by FDA as the person in the United States who, at the time of U.S. entry, either owns the food, has purchased the food, or has agreed in writing to purchase the food. The new reporting information must be transmitted electronically for each food line when filing the entry with U.S. Customs and Border Protection
In order to avoid unnecessary delays at the border, please insure that you include the following information for each food line listed on the commercial invoice:
- the name of the U.S. owner or consignee (as defined by FDA)
- their electronic mail address, and
- their DUNS number
The FDA provides detailed information regarding the Foreign Verification Supplier Program and can be viewed through this link to their website.
